The integration of a blog in a web page has many advantages if there are articles written regularly. From the customer’s point of view it gives a lot of additional information about products and services. But it can be used to inform about recent changes or activities as well. The customer can participate in the blog writing comments. So he is involved in all the happenings of the company. From the SEO’s point of view a blog is a valuable tool in creating content. A related topic blog has advantages over static pages. There are frequent updates and large texts in an article. A search engine robot will come back more often to look for new content. This improves one’s SERP position in general. A blog has a good internal link structure as well, so every page is easily accessible for robots and humans (Chaffey, 2009, p.129-131).
But a blog is also very time-consuming. It is difficult to write interesting articles in a good frequency to make sure that it has a positive PR effect. It is also time-consuming to control user comments because of the risk of spam. There are many automatic programmes, so-called spam-robots, which automatically place adverts in the comment fields. There are methods like CAPTCHAs to avoid this, but there are still spam-robots which can read them as well.
